Bengals’ Assistant Defensive Backs Coach, Adam Zimmer, dies at 38

Adam Zimmer was a football coach in the United States. He was the Cincinnati Bengals’ assistant defensive backs coach and offensive consultant, the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints’ assistant linebackers coach, and the Minnesota Vikings’ linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator. Zimmer was the son of Mike Zimmer, the former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

Adam Zimmer, who worked 16 seasons as an NFL assistant coach and was the son of former Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, passed away on Monday at the age of 38. Mike’s daughter and Adam’s sister, Corri Zimmer White, verified the information on Instagram on Tuesday morning. The reason of death was not disclosed. The owners of the Vikings released a statement saying, “We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Adam Zimmer. “

Adam was a nice, respectable person who clearly cared a great deal about his family, his players, his colleagues coaches, and the Vikings front office staff throughout his time in Minnesota. Mike, Corri, Marki, and the entire Zimmer family are in our prayers.” Rick Spielman, a former Vikings general manager, also released a statement “Coach Zimmer and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. Adam was a fantastic coach and human being. Truly, he will be missed.”

Adam Zimmer was a safety for the Trinity University Tigers football team from 2002 through 2005, wearing #28. In 2006, Zimmer accepted his first coaching position as an assistant linebackers coach with the New Orleans Saints. During his rookie season, the Saints won the NFC South Division and advanced to the NFC Championship game.

Super Bowl XLIV

The Saints won Super Bowl XLIV during Zimmer’s final season in New Orleans in 2009. In 2010, Zimmer was hired as the Chiefs’ assistant linebackers coach. In his rookie season, he assisted the Chiefs in allowing 46.2 fewer rushing yards per game than the previous year.

Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson were selected to the Pro Bowl during the 2011 season. Linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend during the 2012 season, then drove to the Chiefs’ complex and committed suicide in front of head coach Romeo Crennel. Adam Zimmer was deeply touched by this, especially after losing his mother to natural causes in 2009.  When Kansas City dismissed Crennel at the end of the 2012 season, Zimmer was let go.

Along with his father Mike Zimmer, Zimmer joined the Bengals for the 2013 campaign as an assistant defensive backs coach, with his father serving as the defensive coordinator. Adam Zimmer was hired to coach the linebackers when Mike Zimmer was named the ninth head coach of the Minnesota Vikings for the 2014 season.

NFC North Division

The Vikings’ defense, which was ranked 5th in the NFL and allowed only 18.9 points per game, helped them capture the NFC North Division Title in 2015. Anthony Barr, a linebacker, was chosen to replace Jamie Collins in the 2016 Pro Bowl.

Adam Zimmer was born in Ogden, Utah on January 13, 1984. He holds an American nationality and his zodiac sign is Capricorn.
